Reclaim Your Health: My Journey to Healing and Empowering Others
I’ve always had a passion for health and wellness, but my journey didn’t begin in the way you might expect. Growing up on the standard American diet—processed food, sugary cereals, white bread, prepackaged snacks, and fast food—I struggled with my health from a young age. In high school, I desperately wanted to be healthier. I dreamed of running, being active, and feeling good in my body, but I faced a harsh reality at home. My family was not supportive and actively discouraged me from succeeding, not wanting me to break away or achieve more than they had. By the time I was 17, I already had two autoimmune conditions—PCOS and vitiligo—as well as chronic constipation caused by my diet and the stress of childhood trauma. I believed that I couldn’t succeed, and with zero confidence and no support system, I felt trapped, unable to break free from unhealthy habits or low self-worth.
Despite the odds, I became the first—and only—person in the family I grew up in to graduate high school, and I did it with honors. At 17, after graduating, I got married and moved across the globe. That change sparked a personal mission: to take control of my health and prove to myself that I could succeed.
Within a few years, I lost the weight, started running, and even completed the Aloha Run in Hawaii—a grueling 8.15 miles! However, working as a program director for a nationally recognized weight-loss company, I began to notice a troubling pattern: clients were returning, heavier than before. Despite following the program to the letter, I, too, struggled to maintain my weight and discovered that my body fat percentage was an alarming 46%, even though I was only 129 pounds at 5’9″. I had lost my muscle, not just fat.
That realization changed everything. I left that company and started working for a global gym franchise, thinking a better approach to nutrition would solve the problem. While I saw some improvements, it still wasn’t sustainable—clients, and myself included, were stuck in a cycle of yo-yo dieting. Disenchanted with the industry after nearly a decade, I stepped away, became a mother, and moved into administrative roles in therapy and banking.
The real wake-up call started in 2010, but it peaked in 2012 when my son’s health took a dramatic turn. By then, I was remarried with three children, including a special-needs son, and our family was struggling with chronic health issues. I had PCOS, digestive issues, hypothyroidism, and anxiety. My daughter was battling ADHD. My husband was 80 pounds overweight, suffered from chronic back and joint pain, and dealt with sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and prediabetes. But my son’s condition was the most severe—he was losing weight rapidly despite consuming 5,000 calories a day. At just 5’10”, he weighed only 108 pounds.
His diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE), a severe autoimmune condition, turned our world upside down. Doctors offered a bleak outlook: feeding tubes, multiple medications, and no answers for how or why this had happened. But I refused to accept that as his only path forward.
Desperate to find a better way, I dove headfirst into research. I returned to school, earning two degrees, including one in holistic nutrition, as well as multiple certifications in nutrition and wellness.
Over the course of a year, we transitioned to a nutrient-dense, whole-food diet—and the results were nothing short of miraculous. My son’s condition improved dramatically, baffling his doctors. By the second year, his autoimmune disease was in complete remission. Today, he’s a thriving 5’11”, 174-pound young man, eating a variety of foods that were once off-limits.
And it wasn’t just him—our entire family transformed. My husband reversed every single one of his conditions, no longer needing a CPAP machine. I reversed my PCOS, restored my thyroid and digestive health, and my daughter no longer needed ADHD medication.
Food is medicine.
It was then that I realized my calling wasn’t in administrative work. I needed to help others reclaim their health. Our nation, despite its wealth and advanced medical systems, faces staggering health crises:
- Over 50% of Americans are obese, and over 75% are overweight.
- Chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer affect millions, with preventable lifestyle factors playing a significant role.
In 2014, I founded Eating for Healing Nutrition and Wellness with a mission to empower others to break free from the chains of fad diets, processed food, and poor health. Armed with science-backed nutrition and personal experience, I help individuals and families discover sustainable, life-changing solutions to their health challenges.
Our family is thriving, and I want the same for you. Let’s take the first step together.
